Nisha Valabhji

Head of Law Department


Nisha Valabhji is the Head of the Department of Law and Senior Lecturer in Law. She teaches Criminal Law, International Protection of Human Rights, and Evidence. She also directs the clinical legal education programme.

She obtained her Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center and her Master of Science in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She received her Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude with high honors from Brandeis University. She is admitted to the New York Bar.

She has worked extensively with the United Nations in the field of public international law, international criminal law, international humanitarian law, and rule of law, in particular, with the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) at The Hague, the UN Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials (UNAKRT) in Cambodia, and the UN Secretariat in New York. Previously, she worked at the law firm Holland & Knight LLP in New York.

She has given lectures and speeches in various fora to both undergraduate and professional audiences and was a teaching assistant at the undergraduate level. She has published on the topic of cumulative convictions based on the same acts in the Tulane Journal of International and Comparative Law
