The conference was to present the Indian Ocean Rim Association survey results to researchers in Mauritius. The survey was carried out in Seychelles this year. The purpose of the work is to develop a research network in the Western Indian Ocean region from which environmental organisations, researchers and university students alike can gain access to regional research data which will benefit the development of the blue economy, enrich knowledge and ensure a sustainable future for our islands.

UWS Visit to UniSey

Karen Wilson and Dr. Tim Duffy, Dean and Assistant Dean respectively, of the School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery from the University of West of Scotland visited the University of Seychelles on the 23rd and 24th August 2016.

The visit was an initiative of the UWS as a result of continued discussions between the Department of Health and Social Care and the School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery of UWS. The discussions followed the UWS visit in January for the MBA programme.

The UWS representatives met a number of stakeholders, namely Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and theNational Sports Council.

The visit ended with the understanding to formally extend the existing UWS MBA collaboration to include the School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Sports and Exercise Science. The idea of collaboration between the UWS and UniSey Marketing Sections to promote the University of Seychelles as a training hub in the region was also very much appreciated. Communication with the UWS School of Sports and Exercise has already been initiated. It is very likely that the Faculty of Arts and Social Development, Department of Health and Social Care will launch courses from the UWS in 2017.
