UniSey has received two microscopes and additional equipment to the value of SCr 75‘000. This donation is a gift from the Swiss Rotary Club, Am Greifensee in Zürich. Along with other donations from the Save our Seas Foundation, Soroptimist International, the Australian Government & the Swiss Embassy, UniSey is now able to offer proper courses in microscopy and traditional morphometry. The items of equipment were handed over during a short ceremony on Wednesday.
The National choir of Seychelles, left for Beijing, China on Tuesday to participate in a cultural exchange programme and annual choir music show. This trip was organized by the Confucius Institute of UniSey
All freshers who will be starting their classes in September were welcomed and introduced to UniSey and its services at a 3-day induction programme. The sessions were organized from 14th to 16th September and also featured presentations by various stakeholders in a mini expo. The inclusion of a mini expo was to integrate the activities of the University and its students with local businesses.
Professor Dany Adone officially launched Part I of a Linguistics Manual for Teachers written by herself and her student, Melanie Brueck. Professor Dany Adone, from the University of Cologne Germany, has previously given lectures at UniSey pertaining to indigenous knowledge in research and language acquisition. A copy of the manual was received by Professor Dennis Hardy, Vice-Chancellor of UniSey, followed by the presentation of certificates to participants of a linguistics workshop held between 31st August and 2nd September.
Managers from UniSey attended a self-awareness session delivered last Tuesday by Mike George, at the International Conference Centre. Mr George is an author, management tutor, mentor, trainer, and retreat leader, and has facilitated the executive development of managers and leaders in companies and communities in over 30 countries. The main theme of the activity was how to become a better manager by first understanding yourself.
The African Tax Research Network (ATRN) 2nd Annual Congress was held from 5th to 7th September at the SAVOY Seychelles Resort & Spa under the theme “Financing Sustainable Development in Africa: identifying untapped and underutilised sources of revenue”. The congress was hosted by the Seychelles Revenue Commission and the University of Seychelles in partnership with the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF).. The workshop for finalisation of the research project entitled ‘Curriculum, Contextualization Plurilingual and Teacher Training’ (CCPTT) was held at the French-speaking digital campus, at Réduit, Mauritius from 12th to 14th September. This workshop was attended by Ms. Annie Laurette of the UniSey and Ms. Geneviève André, trainer SITE.
Eugenie Souris and Uvicka Bristol from BERI hosted a conference at the University of Mauritius: Faculty of Ocean Studies. The conference was to present the Indian Ocean Rim Association survey results to researchers in Mauritius. The survey was carried out in Seychelles this year. UniSey in collaboration with SenPa and the Ministry of Investment, Entrepreneurship Development and Business Innovation conducted a 3 day course from the 24th to the 26th August 2016 for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The training programme is part of the Seychelles MSME Development Project and is being supported by the African Development Bank.
