Learning a language opens a door to another culture. French literature has helped shape the understanding of humanity at large. This programme offers a range of exposures to the French cultural past and present.

The major explores distinctively French contributions to world culture. You will develop a critical appreciation of the cultural values that lie at the heart of French life. You will enhance your skills for translating, summary-writing, and delivering written and oral presentations to near native standards.


3 years full-time and 5 years part-time

Academic Requirements

To be eligible for the BA degree you must:

satisfy the University general entrance requirements;
demonstrate competence in French at least equivalent to Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF).

Target Audience

This programme is for you if you want to:

raise your French language competence to near-native standard
gain the linguistic skills needed for efficient negotiation with French speakers
learn about French literature, thought and film; French politics and society; and French linguistic

Specific Programme Requirements

Demonstrate competence in French with at least, A-level grade C, DALF or equivalent.

*Applications will be considered from applicants who do not meet the normal minimum age requirement for admission. Each application will be considered on an individual basis, and the decision taken at the discretion of the University.
