A group of employers from the private and public sectors, met on Friday 22nd February to discuss the University’s proposals for developing a curriculum in Leadership and Management. Dr. Michael Hall presented the curriculum development proposals in relation to the current University Strategic Plan and this included the validation of academic programmes from Access to Higher Education, Foundation Degree, Top-up Degree, BA (Hons), Masters and Doctorate and also plans to introduce degrees in Sport, and combined degrees in Sport with Business, Law and Environment. Representatives from the Police requested we consider a degree or diploma in Sociology combined with Psychology and Criminology. This was welcomed by the meeting as a strategic move to entice more young men into higher education and possibly address some of society’s social ills. The meeting requested that the University embeds Employability Skills into all programmes, to address poor attitudes towards the world of work as well as young people’s sense of entitlement.
