New programme to be offered

In September 2018 the Department’s new programme, Diploma in Journalism, was validated by Seychelles Qualifications Authorities. This programme is the result of a collaborative effort of UniSey academics and professionals from Seychelles Media Houses, such as Seychelles Media Commission (SMC), Seychelles Broadcasting Company (SBC), National Information Services Agency (NISA). The Diploma in Journalism is a qualification which will equip learners with necessary competences and skills to engage in various areas of journalism production. The programme is specifically tailored to cater to both in-service specialists seeking professional upgrade, and those who have decided to choose journalism as a career without previous exposure to it.  The contents, approaches and delivery scheme for the programme modules have been carefully filtered and configured to build on its three prominent features:

  • flexibility,
  • extensive practical exposure,
  • considerable amount of disciplines supporting journalism practice, including three languages (English, French, Creole).

The programme focuses on the three main aspects of preparing a competent journalist:

  • development of a wide range of specialized technical and academic skills in the field of broadcasting, print journalism and new media,
  • multilingual journalism proficiency,
  • enhanced capacity for informed decisions and critical approaches in journalism practice.
