Presentation – “Opportunities in the Blue Economy” by Stewart Frusher

On 17 July 2019, Theater II was the venue of yet another presentation: opportunities in the Blue Economy, that was delivered by Stewart Frusher – an adjunct Professor at the University of Tasmania, Australia, and the inaugural director of the Centre for Marine Sociology. The presentation outlined how the blue economy provides opportunities for all layers of society, from communities to national governments. It also highlighted the need for:

(i) interdisciplinary research to support both development and conservation of the oceans;

(ii) researchers to work with industry, governments, conservationists and communities to ensure that increased sustainable ocean development is fair, equitable and just.
