The Student Support Services is here to provide opportunities for students to achieve their goals and provide services that complement their academic experience. It offers a range of services, including information, advice and support to students to ensure that all are able to successfully complete their programme of studies.
The services offered include the following:
University is often an exciting but also a stressful time for students. It is not uncommon for problems to arise that may interfere with a student’s academic and personal progress, and it is at those times that it could help to talk to a counsellor. Students can talk about anything that is worrying them. The counselling service is free, confidential and non-judgmental. It is available for you to use in that way that most suits your needs. You can benefit from one session with a counsellor or they may feel that your concerns require work over a series of sessions, in which case the counsellor will contract with you to provide support on a longer-term basis.
If you are not sure what you want to do when you leave university, don’t worry, you are not alone! Whether you have plenty of ideas about your future plans but don’t know how to narrow these down, or you feel that you lack inspiration and need to generate some ideas, this unit is here to help you. Careers guidance is available to provide support for your career development and employment needs.
Students may also benefit greatly from the chaplaincy services, which range from spiritual care and emotional support as part of the university’s overall welfare provision. The service gives you the opportunity for reflection and exploration of faith issues, as well as developing a wider understanding of personal and social issues. We lend confidential and listening ears and offer you time and space whenever you need it. The chaplaincy teams include members of the Seychelles Interfaith Committee.
