Joëlle, who has been working in education for 26 years, is the current Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles (UniSey) – since January 2021. 

Prior to being the V-C, she served as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Development from January 2016 to December 2020. She was also the Head of Tourism and Hospitality and Head of the Assistant Teacher Programme. Her academic expertise lies in linguistics, psycholinguistics, didactics, plurilingualism, communication technics, teacher training, and ICT in and for education. 

She studied in France – University of Franche-Comté in Besançon and then at La Sorbonne-Nouvelle, Paris 3.

For her MPhil she worked on the Integration of ICT (CALL) in the
educational system of Seychelles.

For her doctoral studies she worked on Plurilingualism and teacher training.

She is a member of different international linguistics and didactics associations namely DILTEC, APRODEC, ACEDLE – Association of Researchers and Foreign Language teachers; DILTEC = Language Didactics, Texts and Cultures at Sorbonne Paris 3; ALSIC = Online journal for ICT researchers in education, Association for the Advancement of  Computing in Education – AACE. She is also a member of several networks/groups for researchers in psycholinguistics. Her main research interests are currently in plurilingual didactics, psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics.

She is a member on a few national committees and is the national Focal point for the Agency of Francophone Universities (l’AUF) as well as for the Southern African Regional Universities Association (SARUA).
