Joëlle joined UniSey as a Lecturer in French and Head of the Teacher Assistant Programme in 2010. Her expertise lies in linguistics, didactics, plurilingualism, communication technics, teacher training, research methodology and ICT for education.
Good A-Level results earned Joëlle a scholarship to pursue studies in French linguistics and didactics: for nine months at the School of Education, Seychelles, and then for nine months at the Centre for Applied Linguistics, Besançon, France, after which she was awarded a Diploma in Secondary Education (Best Performer). She continued through to a BA in French (Honours), then a Master’s (Honours) and an MPhil (Honours) at the University of Franche-Comté, Besançon. Through merit, she was selected to work on the ALSIC project (online language and ICT journal) which gave her access to the University of Sorbonne-Nouvelle Paris 3, where she then undertook research for her PhD thesis, entitled ‘L’enseignement précoce des langues aux Seychelles: projecteur sur la formation des enseignants’.
Her professional career began in 1997 as a French Language secondary teacher, gaining experience in both France and Seychelles; then as a lecturer on the French A’ level course, School of Advanced Level Studies, for two years. A spell of five years at the National Institute of Education ensued, lecturing in French and ICT on the Primary, Secondary, PGCE and In-service programmes, and supervising research projects. In parallel, she taught for three years at Alliance Française on a part-time basis.
Joëlle was a lecturer on the BA French programme in partnership with the University of Réunion, and she was also Head of Programme, Masters in Sustainable Tourism Management, in partnership with IREST University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She has authored and co-authored articles, presented papers at numerous conferences, participated in and/or led projects in her research area: plurilingual didactics and teacher training. Her other research interests are in psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics.
Currently, Joëlle is the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Development.
