Friday 14th March 2014 saw the launching of UniSey’s second Strategic Plan, taking the university forward to 2016. True to UniSey’s mission, the plan points to new higher education opportunities for Seychellois. Two new programmes – in Social Work and Community Work – will start in September, very much in line with the national commitment to social renaissance. The University of Seychelles and the Seychelles Investment Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday, Thursday 13th March in a short ceremony attended by representatives from both organisations, at the Anse Royale campus. Mrs. Shella Mohideen was appointed as the new Dean to head ‘The Guy Morel Institute ‘,a new Faculty of the University of Seychelles, replacing the School of Business Management. Her appointment takes effect at the start of next month under the new Institute. Mrs. Mohideen previously occupied the position of Director at the School of Advanced Level studies for four years. On Monday 24th February, the University of Seychelles held a Convocation Ceremony in which Professor Dennis Hardy was invested with office of Vice Chancellor of the University. Presiding over the ceremony, was the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, Professor Rolph Payet, in the presence of other members of the UniSey council, UniSey management, staff and students as well as other high level dignitaries. In its fifth year now, the Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon is an annual event where runners from different background join hands to support environmental causes. This year a number of participants from the University of Seychelles led their support again, gathering at Beau Vallon beach early Sunday morning to begin the race. The marathon is a ten kilometre run organised by the National Sports Council with sponsors from various private companies, where runners either jog or walk the set race course.…
Two courses in Maritime Crime and Law Enforcement and Maritime Crime and Correctional Administration, the first ever to be provided in the region, was run by the University of Seychelles, in collaboration with the United Nation’s Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). To end the year 2013 in a special way, staff members of the University of Seychelles (UniSey) with their children joined forces in a tree planting activity to support the campaign to plant 20,000 trees which was launched by the Ministry of Environment earlier this year. A group of nine students from the University of Seychelles (UniSey), enrolled in the BSc Environmental Science programme, had the opportunity to practice and implement skills learnt in their Introduction to Geoinformatics and Field-studies in Environmental Science course on Ile aux Recifs Island.
