Mrs. Doris Atayi has been a valued member of the University of Seychelles since 2012. She initially coordinated Student Support Services across the University, where she provided individual counselling sessions to students and played a key role in student wellbeing and support.
She later transitioned into a full-time lecturing role to contribute to the launch and development of the Social Science degree, teaching counselling skills in both theory and practice. She was also one of the key contributors to the establishment of the Health and Social Care Department at UniSey during its inception in 2014. As one of the first two staff members, she supported the initiation of departmental operations and systems.
Over the past 11 years, she has held several leadership and academic roles, including Lecturer, Assistant Head of Department and Programme Coordinator. She currently serves as Senior Lecturer, contributing to teaching, academic planning, curriculum development and the continued growth of the department.
Before joining UniSey, Mrs. Atayi gained extensive practical experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist in the United Kingdom, working with young people aged 12–25. She also provided psychological therapeutic services in Seychelles. She previously served as a Senior Probation Officer at the Ministry of Social Development and worked as a Research Assistant at the Seychelles Institute of Management.
She has led research projects and facilitated professional workshops on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and stress management for educators and school counsellors. Her professional profile reflects a strong integration of practical counselling, academic teaching, research and student support.
