Dr. Nathalie Bodin holds a Docteur en Océanologie Biologique from the University of Brittany, France, and a Master’s degree in Toxicology and Ecotoxicology from the University of Paris René Descartes.

Her areas of expertise and interest span ecosystem functions and sustainable management, pollution, climate change, and their effects on living resources and human health.

With over 15 years of research experience at the French Institute for Research and Development (IRD) and the Seychelles Fishing Authority, Dr. Bodin has developed broad expertise across environmental science disciplines. She particularly enjoys the diversity of her work — from field research (as a professional diver participating in scientific and commercial cruises) to laboratory work (with expertise in multiple analytical methods and laboratory management) and data analysis.

Dr. Bodin has supervised numerous students, from A-level to PhD and postdoctoral levels, as well as early-career scientists and technicians from partner institutions across Africa (Senegal, Ivory Coast, Mauritius, Seychelles), Europe (France, Italy, Spain), and the Americas (United States, Mexico). She has authored or co-authored over 80 scientific articles and more than 90 conference proceedings and technical reports.

Since 2022, she has been based in Seychelles, working as an independent consultant. Her recent projects focus on the management and analysis of large datasets (including health, food, and trade) and on applied research in food security and agroecology — particularly approaches to reduce or eliminate the use of pesticides in farming.
