Programme Overview

The Advanced Course in Paralegal Studies equips students with knowledge and skills to support the justice delivery system in Seychelles. It is designed for those interested in law but not necessarily seeking to become attorneys, while still providing a strong foundation for future legal studies.


Students will gain competencies in legal writing, research, ethics, court procedures, and the use of digital technologies in law. The programme also addresses contemporary challenges such as corruption, human rights, and access to justice.

 

Objectives
  • Provide practical knowledge of substantive legal concepts and procedures.
  • Train paralegals and help-desk personnel to improve efficiency in the justice system.
  • Develop skills in legal writing, communication, and digital law practices.
  • Raise awareness of corruption and human rights issues affecting justice delivery.
  • Lay the foundation for formalisation of paralegal work in Seychelles.

Notional Hours: Approximately 960 hours of learning, including lectures, seminars, self-study, and assessments.

The Advanced Certificate in Paralegal Studies is delivered through a flexible blended-learning model designed to accommodate both full-time learners and working professionals. Teaching and learning take place across UniSey’s Anse Royale and Mont Fleuri campuses.

Teaching Methods
  • Lectures: Core theoretical foundations delivered by academic staff and legal practitioners.

  • Seminars & Tutorials: Small-group discussions, case analysis, ethical debates, and skills-based sessions.

  • Workshops: Practical activities focused on legal writing, research, digital tools, and court procedures.

  • Online Learning: Access to recorded lectures, digital law resources, and self-study materials via the UniSey virtual learning environment.

  • Block-Release Sessions: Scheduled intensive sessions suitable for employed learners and part-time students.

 
Learning Approach
    • Competency-based learning aligned with paralegal roles in Seychelles.

    • Practical assignments, moots, role-plays, and digital-skills training.

    • Comparative legal research with a focus on Seychelles’ hybrid legal system.

    • Continuous support through academic advisors and online resources.

Applicants must satisfy one of the following:

  • Normal Entry: GCSE with 5 passes (including English at Grade C or better), or GCE A-Level with 2 good passes in Arts, Humanities, Commerce, or Sciences.

  • Special Entry: Relevant degree, diploma or certificate; or relevant professional experience (subject to interview or proficiency test).

  • All admissions are subject to approval by the UniSey Admissions Committee.

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Honours

The LLB Hons degree programme aims to equip students with legal knowledge and skills which will be a foundation to endless career options as law professionals. Students who undertake the LLB programme will have an opportunity to undergo formal legal education which is comprehensive and robust. The first year introduces students to critical legal thinking and legal reasoning.
