ESERI 3rd Anniversary Seminar – ‘Population Dynamics in Seychelles: Past, Present and Future’ by Dr. Michel Rosalie

On Monday 6th October, the University of Seychelles’ Education and Socioeconomic Research Institute (ESERI) marked its 3rd anniversary with a research seminar by local demographer Dr. Michel Rosalie. His presentation on Seychelles’ population dynamics warned of declining growth trends, projecting that the population may not replenish itself by 2064. He highlighted key drivers such as access to education, family planning, and increased female workforce participation.
The seminar also explored the impact of slowed growth on labour, migration, and sustainability, calling for stronger links between social policy and population research. ESERI Director Mrs. Christine Pejakovic, along with Prof. Mats Deutschmann and Dr. Gerard Adonis, also shared insights into ESERI’s ongoing educational and socio-economic research.
