English Version:

The Creole Language and Culture Research Institute (CLCRI) organised its annual activity to commemorate World Book and Copyright Day, celebrated on 23 April. As in previous years, a particular book was selected for special focus. This year, the chosen work was “If I Were to Write My Story”, winner of the Jury Prize of the Antoine Abel Competition 2011–2013, written by Reuban Lespoir, a researcher at CLCRI. The activity was also aligned with the celebration of the abolition of slavery, which is being marked for the first time locally.

The event took place on 29 April and was attended by a dynamic audience that included the Chief Executive Officer of NACC, university staff, researchers, SITE students, family members of the author, members of the press, and other writing enthusiasts. The presentations were delivered by Ms Rita Gay, a highly prominent journalist, and Dr Penda Choppy, Director of the CLCRI. Their presentations deeply moved the audience, to the extent that a suggestion was made for the analysis to be presented to a wider audience. The discussion focused on the themes of the book, its grammatical structures, and the effects and experiences shared by the author. This resulted in a highly informative and enriching debate.
