Darryl Sinon has been serving as Assistant Project Officer at the Island Biodiversity and Conservation (IBC) Centre since 2023, contributing to the CEPF-funded project Increasing Resilience of the Sainte Anne Marine National Park Islands. Based on Ste Anne and Moyenne Islands since October 2024, he also works across other granitic and coralline islands, implementing island conservation and restoration activities, including rodent control and eradication, invasive plant removal, tree planting, nursery establishment, and biodiversity monitoring. His monitoring activities encompass marine turtles and nesting success, seabird censuses and ringing, landbird and reptile surveys, and invertebrate assessments.
Prior to this role, Darryl worked as a Research Assistant on a Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus) control program (SEYWOL) led by CYROI in collaboration with IBC-UniSey and the Seychelles Ministry of Health. The program applied the Sterile Insect Technique using Wolbachia-infected males, with field releases conducted on Moyenne Island and Ste Anne as a control site, and sterilising males produced at the Ministry of Health lab at Grande Anse research station.
Darryl brings extensive administrative and technical experience from nearly a decade as a Technician in the Land Section of the Seychelles Ministry for Land and Housing in Victoria, and as Senior Development Control Officer for the Planning Authority. He also gained early field experience at Aride Island Nature Reserve, which sparked his interest in nature conservation and motivated his professional development in the field.
