Dr. Jude Bijoux obtained his PhD in Marine Ecology from Aix-Marseille University, France, where he also completed his Master’s degree. He holds a BSc in Marine Biology from Newcastle University (UK).

He has over twenty years of experience in marine biodiversity conservation, having worked with several Seychelles government parastatals, including the Seychelles Fishing Authority and the Seychelles National Parks Authority (now the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority). He currently works as an independent consultant and has extensive experience in marine research, climate change policy and strategy development, biodiversity and habitat assessment, project monitoring and evaluation, and environmental, coastal, and fisheries management.

Dr. Bijoux’s principal scientific interests lie in fish movement ecology and the ecological drivers structuring coral reef fish communities, as well as the restoration of marine habitats affected by climate change. He has conducted significant research on fish behavioural dynamics related to spawning aggregations, the interaction between coral reef fishes and fishing gear, and the recovery trajectories of coral reefs impacted by climate-induced mass bleaching events. He also engages with the social dimensions of fisheries and marine conservation in the context of climate change.

As an Associate Lecturer at the University of Seychelles, he teaches a course on the monitoring and assessment of fish communities. He has authored or co-authored more than 30 major publications on coral reefs and fishes, including 15 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. He led the preparation of the last three Seychelles Status of Coral Reefs reports and has contributed to numerous regional assessments on coral reefs and marine biodiversity.
