In commemoration of Prison Week, the Seychelles Prison Service (SPS) invited the research team from the University of Seychelles, working on a commissioned research project on recidivism, to deliver a presentation on An Overview of on Recidivism. The event was held at the Montagne Posée Prison and was attended by the SPS Senior Management, staff and some members of the Prison Advisory Board. The new Commissioner of Prison, Mrs. Janet Georges delivered the opening speech, followed by a PowerPoint presentation by Ms. Diana Benoit, the Project Lead on the research. Ms. Benoit was accompanied by Mr. Georges Nicette, the Principal Investigator, along with co-investigators Ms. Priscilla Moyo and Mr. Ryan Adeline. The aim of the presentation was to provide an overview of the research project and to update SPS and attendees on the progress made thus far. The research team highlighted the research process and outline the next steps in their ongoing work and how this research could contribute to developing strategies for reducing recidivism rates within the Seychelles prison system.
