Ms. Aneesa Vel is a Senior Research Officer for Creole Language with the Creole Language and Culture Research Institute (CLCRI) at the University of Seychelles. She has been part of the Faculty of Research and Innovation (FRI) since 2018. Prior to joining the University, she served as a Curriculum Development Officer for Creole and worked as a French teacher with the Ministry of Education. Her academic background is in linguistics and education.

Aneesa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in French Linguistics from the University of Seychelles (2013) and a Master’s Degree (by research) in Language Sciences and Creole Studies from the University of Réunion (2016). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Language Sciences and Creole Studies with Aix-Marseille University, Aix-en-Provence, France.

Her research interests focus on Creole linguistics, Creole in education, multilingualism, languages in contact, sociolinguistics, descriptive linguistics and linguistic landscapes. She has published several articles and book chapters in these fields and contributes actively to national and regional research on Creole language use, policy and development.
