The LLB Hons degree programme aims to equip students with legal knowledge and skills which will be a foundation to endless career options as law professionals. Students who undertake the LLB programme will have an opportunity to undergo formal legal education which is comprehensive and robust. The first year introduces students to critical legal thinking and legal reasoning. To enhance knowledge in the discipline of law, subsequent years will offer a wide range of substantive law courses, including specialised electives.

The LLB is expected to increase legal professionals in Seychelles. Formal legal education and legal professionals are imperative in order to support the aspirations of the national development plan from both a human capital perspective, and aspirations to enhance good governance for peace, prosperity and sustainable development. Law graduates are instrumental in this regard.

Duration

The programme is offered 4 years full-time and 6 years part time.

Language of Study

The programme is offered in English.

Mode of Delivery

The primary delivery mode will be in person and virtual lectures. Additional self-study will also be required outside of contact hours.

For each course, there are both lecturer-led and student-centred sessions.

Each course is delivered over 15 weeks, in weekly contact sessions of 3 hours. Each timetabled contact session comprises 3 hours of lecture and 1 hour of tutorial every other week.

The modes of delivery may vary among courses. Some courses may need more practical problem solving than others. Depending on the nature of the topic, more emphasis may be placed on practical activities relating to the concept being learnt and its application to the real world. As a result, the lecturer-led sessions of the programme are loaded with group work, discussions, case studies and potential role play. Comparative analysis of theory and current practices is also a common mode of delivery used.

The students are also expected to carry out directed and independent learning activities including further reading, assignments, problem solving and research for discussions during the contact sessions.

Tutorials are available once after every two weeks. They may be scheduled for individual students or groups of students with common needs.

Typical lecture resources are: a classroom, computer, a projector, flip charts, writing board and markers.

Based on Seychelles’ mixed jurisdiction, comparative law is encouraged to be taught in each module under at least one topic.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements are one of the following:

- A grade ‘C’ or above in any two IGCSE/O-Levels AND any two A-levels.

- Applicants should have a ‘Distinction’ in a validated post-secondary Diploma in the Arts, or equivalent. Entry is subject to approval by the UniSey Admissions Committee.

- Technical pathways into the programme will be assessed on a case by case basis by the Admissions Committee and proficiency tests will be conducted as necessary. Applicants in employment should have a minimum of three years of work experience in a relevant field at an appropriate technical level.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be assessed on a case by case basis by the Admissions Committee and in line with UniSey policy.
