The B.Ed. Primary programme is designed to equip participants with knowledge, skills and attitude to become effective and reflective practitioners. In addition, the purpose of the programme is to enhance the quality of education and training for adolescents and adult learners.

The key principles of the B.Ed. Primary programme aim to provide focus and direction relating to:

  • Learners and learning
  • Professional practice in education and training
  • Quality and practice in professional

 

The principles are integral parts of the programme and thus encompass the concept of reflective practice and that of being a reflective practitioner. The programme is designed to enhance practice through insight, understanding and skills development within the context of reflective teaching.

3 part time to 5 years 

The programme is offered in English.

The programme is offered full-time and part time.

Year 1

  • USLA1101 Language in the national curriculum
  • USMA1101 Number operations and Computational algorithms
  • USIT1101 Intel-Teach

 

Term 2:

  • USS1101-Science 1

  • USS1101: Introduction to Social Sciences

  • USLA1102 Theories, Principles and Approaches of Languages teaching and learning

 

Term 3:

  • USEE1101: Environment Education
  • USMA1102 Measurements, Fractions, and Decimals
  • USVA1101: Visual Arts
  • WBE 1

 

Year 2


Term 1:

  • USLA2203-Development of Oral Communication
  • USMA2203- Ratio, Proportion, Percentages and Problem solving
  • USVA2201-Arts Practice and Presentation

 

Term 2:

  • USSC2202- Science 2
  • USLA2204: Literacy Assessment, Intervention and Enrichment
  • USSS2202 Social Sciences (History/Geography)

 

Term 3:

  • USLA2205: Teaching speaking and writing
  • USMA2204 Geometry, Algebra and Statistics
  • USSP2201: Spirituality
  • WBE2

 

Year 3


Term 1

  • USIR3301 Introduction to Educational Research
  • USFH3301: Family and Health Education
  • USAL3301: Assessment for learning

 

Term 2

  • USTE3301 Technology and Enterprise
  • USIR3302: Action Research in Education-Methodology

 

Term 3

  • USAR3303: Action Research in the Classroom
  • WBE 3

 

  • The programme will have two major components: theoretical and practical. The former will be achieved through lectures and tutorials. The latter will involve Work-Based Experience (WBE) in relevant educational institution(s).

 

  • Programme participants will be supported throughout their programme by lecturers and other support staff to become competent and reflective practitioners.

2 A Levels and 3 O’level / IGCSE qualifications (or equivalent) (any two of these must be English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C)

Or/ with

Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Education and at least 2 years in Teaching.

Or/ with

RPL entry, Certificates entry requirements, recommendation from the employer, and at least 10 years of teaching experience. (Requirements for entry is guided as per RPL SQA policy, Feb 2017) 

SCR 125,000 per year *

The B.Ed. Early Secondary programme specialisation in Social Sciences is designed to equip participants with knowledge, skills and attitude to become effective and reflective practitioners.
